Konrad Becker / Grand Piano Classics – LIVE
Concertos for Grand Pianos: Konrad Becker’s work as a sound artist and composer is mostly known for his pioneering achievements in electronic music under the name Monoton. Until this day documents of his acoustic works remain extremely rare. The pieces for 4 pianos remain a central element in his oeuvre and it is for the first time that these historic recordings are made available. Recorded in 1982-83 for the international performance series “Program for the 100% Resocialization of the Devil” and the “Parzival” opera in May 1984.

Zero-Oxygen Grand Piano:
Three previously unpublished “Zero Oxygen” tracks contrast the almost 30 year old analog sound documents. In 2002 the piano pieces for mechanical instruments were amended by a digital postscript of virtual grand pianos.

It’s 1989. The british music-scene declares the ‘Summer of Love’, Raves and Acid-House are hot themes in current music-magazins. In these times, Motte already lived for 7 years on his music and he oparated with some pals the club ‘Turbine Rosenheim’, a legendary underground location in Berlin. By that he became one of the founders of the electronical music-scene in germany. Inspired by the british movement, Motte organizes and originates a demonstration for ‘portrayal of contemporary dance music culture in terms of a parade’, which will get famosity worldwide by the name ‘Loveparade’. And with it, of course his originator, Dr. Motte.

hunee – DJ
Over the last two years house music has become a tad bit obsessed with deepness. As a result, releases have begun to sound formulaic: Take some mellow pads, add a bit of tried-and-tested African American vocal samples and work in some classic Rhodes piano lines and voilà: deep house a la mode. So how does a producer operating in this genre differentiate himself? One way suggested by Hunee is, curiously, to follow the classic recipe, use the best ingredients and cook with a bit of flare.

While this is merely the producer’s second release, the Korean-Berliner comes off as a seasoned expert. “Rare Silk” is built around a frenetic kick drum sequence that threatens to careen off a 4-4 pattern. Hunee fuses the hectic beat with a frantic skat vocal. Some might self-consciously describe it as “soulful,” but most would also agree it’s straight up funky and creative. Meanwhile, on “Cut Down Trees,” things are more subdued rhythmically but still melodically busy. Here, a slightly tribal drum pattern is surrounded by fluttering strings and what might be xylophone or wind-chime samples. (www.residentadvisor.net)

Over the last four years, Mark E has established himself as a producer with a distinctive, almost instantly recognisable style. And his consistently strong releases for the likes of Running Back, Jiscomusic and Golf Channel have put Birmingham firmly on the house music map. As a DJ, he‘s no slouch, either. He has a burgeoning club calendar and, listening back to his RA podcast from last year, it‘s not difficult to discern why: Cole Medina‘s Bee Gees-sampling „Love You Inside Out,“ Mark‘s own epic extension of Grace Jones‘ „La Vie En Rose“ and a bunch of his—at the time unreleased—productions were expertly welded together to provide the perfect soundtrack.
